School Health Advisory Council

Chisum ISD established a local school health advisory council to assist the District in ensuring that local community values and health issues are reflected in the District’s health education instruction. The Board  appointed members to the council, a majority of
which are parents of students enrolled in the District and who are not employed by the District. The Board also appointed one or more public school teachers, public school administrators, District students, health-care professionals, members of the business
community, law enforcement representatives, senior citizens, clergy, or representatives of nonprofit health organizations. The SHAC for Chisum ISD meets four times a year to discuss health related issues and has been involved in developing policies related to student drug testing, school immunizations, use of tobacco products, and compliance with TEA food service and vending machine guidelines.
